Reaktor’s Biggest Feature Drop Yet Makes Digital Embellishment Easier to See, Share and Sell

Digital embellishment has always had a communication problem.
Foil, varnish, dimensional textures and specialty effects can look incredible in person, but they are notoriously difficult to represent on a flat computer screen. Static PDFs cannot capture reflected light. Traditional mockups struggle to show height and texture. Physical samples work, but they take time and money to produce, especially when a customer is still deciding what they want.
Reaktor was created to close that gap by giving printers, designers, agencies and brands an interactive way to visualize embellished print before it reaches production. Only a few months after its public launch, and fresh off winning a 2026 Pinnacle Award for Technology, Reaktor has released its largest collection of updates yet.
The objective behind the new release is straightforward: make Reaktor easier to use, improve its performance and bring its digital effects even closer to the appearance of the finished printed piece.
Many of the improvements came directly from feedback provided by the Reaktor and Taktisphere communities. Users asked for more realistic effects, fewer file-preparation requirements and easier ways to share concepts with customers. This feature drop responds to all three.
Depth IQ Brings Raised Varnish to Life
The headline feature is Depth IQ, a new rendering system designed to create a much more realistic representation of dimensional varnish.
Earlier versions of Reaktor could visually suggest that an effect was raised. Users could tilt the design and watch light move across the varnished areas, but the height itself remained primarily a visual illusion.
Depth IQ adds actual three-dimensional geometry to the render. The embellishment now appears to rise from the printed surface, creating defined edges, dimensional contours and more realistic interaction with light.
Users can select from four rendering levels:
LT
Low
Medium
High
LT provides a fast visual rendering for everyday previews. Low, Medium and High allow users to demonstrate increasingly dimensional effects similar to those produced by inkjet embellishment systems.
The simplified levels are also easier to use in a sales conversation than exact micron measurements. Customers rarely need to choose between 62 and 73 microns of varnish. They need to understand how a subtle effect compares with a more dramatic one, what each option looks like and what additional value it brings to the printed piece.
That makes Depth IQ more than a visual improvement. It gives printers a practical way to present multiple embellishment options and connect increasing dimensionality with different price points.
Reaktor has also added a flat UV spot-varnish option, allowing users to represent conventional gloss effects without dimensional height. This is especially valuable for printers producing a mix of traditional spot UV and raised digital embellishment.
Grayscale Masks Create Peaks, Valleys and Texture
Another major addition is grayscale-mask rendering for raised varnish.
A standard embellishment mask is essentially binary. An area either receives varnish or it does not. A grayscale mask contains different tonal values that can be interpreted as different varnish intensities or heights.
In practical terms, darker and lighter areas within the same mask can produce varying levels of dimensionality. Instead of applying one uniform height across the entire embellished area, a designer can create gradual transitions, peaks, valleys and complex surface textures.
Reaktor can now visualize those variations across a single design.
This opens the door to far more sophisticated creative applications. Water, skin, fabric, scales, wood grain, topographical patterns and photographic textures can all become dimensional experiences rather than simple blocks of gloss.
It also allows a printer to show a customer what a grayscale effect is intended to accomplish before the job is produced. That additional clarity can reduce uncertainty during approval while encouraging designers to explore capabilities they might otherwise avoid.
Varnish Over Foil Is Now Supported
Reaktor can now render varnish directly over foil, including raised effects powered by Depth IQ.
This combination is increasingly important because foil does not need to exist as an isolated metallic element. Varnish can be placed over foil to create patterns, texture, depth and dramatic changes in reflection.
A metallic area can remain smooth in one location and become dimensional in another. A texture can travel across the foil, catching light differently as the viewer moves the design. The result is an effect that is difficult to communicate using a static proof but immediately understandable in an interactive Reaktor preview.
By supporting these layered combinations, Reaktor gives designers a more accurate sandbox for experimentation and gives printers another way to demonstrate the full creative potential of their equipment.
PDF Uploads Just Became Much Easier
Some of the most important improvements in this release are less glamorous, but they may have the biggest impact on everyday use.
Previously, files needed to follow a particular layer structure before being uploaded. Color artwork and embellishment information had to be organized and labeled correctly for Reaktor to understand the document.
That requirement has now been dramatically reduced.
Users can upload a PDF containing spot colors, and Reaktor will automatically identify those spot colors and present them as configurable elements. It no longer depends on a dedicated color layer or a rigid layer-naming structure.
This means users can spend less time rebuilding files specifically for visualization. In many cases, they can upload the production-ready PDF they already have and allow Reaktor to interpret it.
Reaktor also provides greater visibility into the document itself. Users can inspect the available layers and spot colors, understand how the file was constructed and assign the appropriate embellishment effect inside the platform.
The result is a faster path from artwork to interactive visualization.
Turn Every Preview Into a Sales Tool
Sharing has also received a major upgrade.
Reaktor already allowed users to send customers a secure interactive link. The new release can now automatically generate a QR code for every preview.
The QR code can be downloaded as a PNG, copied into an email, placed inside a PowerPoint presentation or even printed onto a direct-mail piece. A customer can scan it with a phone and immediately interact with the design by tilting, rotating, moving and zooming in on the effects.
Custom branding makes the experience even more powerful. Printers, agencies and brands can add their own logos, change sidebar branding and connect logos to custom URLs. Branding can be configured globally, by customer or by individual project.
Those URLs can direct viewers to a company website, an ordering page, a payment link or another call to action. Instead of sending a generic software preview, the printer can deliver a polished, branded sales experience.
A new full-screen mode removes the interface when users want the artwork and effects to take center stage.
Bigger Files, Better Performance and More Possibilities
Reaktor has also improved performance for large-format and high-resolution files. The platform can now render designs up to B0++ size, supporting larger packaging, posters and other demanding applications.
The release expands support for designs printed on metallic substrates with white ink and color overprinting, helping users visualize where the metallic surface remains visible and where white ink blocks or modifies that appearance.
Expanded-gamut capabilities are also progressing, with additional support for specialty colors including pink and upcoming support for green.
Taken together, this feature drop represents an important evolution for Reaktor. It is more realistic, easier to operate and much easier to integrate into an actual sales process.
Because the real value of visualization is not simply creating a beautiful digital mockup. It is helping a customer understand an idea, approve it with confidence and become excited enough to buy it.
Reaktor is turning embellishment from something that must be physically experienced into something that can be explored from virtually anywhere. And with continued development being driven by the people using it, this is only the beginning.
